On 8th March, 1918, the Germans launched an attack in an attempt to capture the high ground north-west of Gheluvelt in the Ypres salient. Holding the line here was 111 Brigade of 37th Division with 13th King’s Royal Rifle Corps and 13th Royal Fusiliers in front. These two battalions took the brunt of the attack during which their line breached. 10th Royal Fusiliers were sent up and during the night of 8-9th March, launched three attacks which restored the situation. The fourth battalion of 111 Brigade was 13th Rifle Brigade and although they were not called on to assist in this action they were moved up to a more forward position from reserve in case they were needed and it is likely that Arthur Foxworthy was killed, probably by shell fire, while doing this.
